The ceremony
Most couples from abroad sign the legal papers in their home country and hold a symbolic ceremony in Ibiza: any place, any words, any language.
What most couples do
Symbolic ceremony
No Spanish paperwork. A celebrant writes it with you; you choose the cliff-top, the garden or the beach club, and the hour before sunset.
Legally valid in Spain
Church wedding
A Catholic wedding has civil effect. The papers start at your home parish; allow at least four months.
If one of you lives in Spain
Civil wedding
Spanish civil marriage needs one partner resident in Spain or Spanish. There is no fixed two-year rule in the law.
How your day can go
Ibiza weddings often start with welcome drinks two nights before and end with a long lunch the day after.

3 days · 60–120 guests

Good to know
Ibiza has tightened up on noise and parties. None of it rules out a wonderful wedding, but plan around it from the start.
23:00
Music moves inside
Night hours under most noise rules start at 23:00. Choose a venue with a sound-proofed room if you want to dance late.
Villas
Permission in writing
Holiday-rental contracts must forbid events that break neighbourhood rules. Only book villas that host weddings, on paper.
Beaches
Not the public sand
Ceremonies on public beaches are generally not allowed; beach clubs and cliff-tops are the way.
Fire
1 May – 15 October
Fire-risk season: fireworks, lanterns and flame shows near woodland need care and often permission.
Island life
Local touches that make a wedding feel like it could only have happened here.
01
Ball pagès
The island's courtship dance on drum, flute and castanets; ses nou rodades is danced by newlyweds.
02
Adlib white
The flowing all-white style born at Ibiza's first fashion week in 1971, now the island's wedding dress code.
03
Hierbas & island wine
Toast with hierbas ibicencas; pour Vi de la Terra Eivissa from Sant Mateu's vineyards.
04
Flaó
Mint-scented sheep's-cheese cake: a very Ibiza alternative, or addition, to the wedding cake.

Questions
Most couples from abroad marry legally in their home country and celebrate in Ibiza with a symbolic ceremony. A civil wedding in Spain needs at least one partner to live in Spain or be Spanish; a Catholic church wedding is a possible exception.
No such fixed period is in the Spanish Civil Registry Law. What is required is that one partner is domiciled in Spain, usually shown with the padrón certificate.
Yes, Catholic couples can marry in one of Ibiza's parish churches. The papers start with your parish priest at home and go through your diocese to the Diocese of Ibiza. Allow at least four months.
Yes. Same-sex marriage has been legal in Spain since 2005, with the same rules as for every couple.
June and September for warm days, long evenings and a warm sea. May and early October are calmer and better value, with a little more chance of rain. July and August are the hottest and busiest.
Twelve to eighteen months for popular venues in June and September. Smaller weddings and off-season dates can come together in six months.
